R.H.E.M.A

Hello RLC Friends and Family!

This past Sunday, Apostle Johnson spoke to us about being current with the Spirit of God. He used the acronym R.H.E..M.A.

What does Rhema mean?

Bill Hammon says it like this: "Rhema is the word the Holy Spirit quickens to a specific person for a specific situation"

If I could put it simply, I would say the rhema (word) of God is His perspective on a current or specific situation.

This week's word has challenged many of us to examine our DAILY communion with God. It is during those times that we develop our relationship with God. Our private bible study and prayer time is where we learn more about our Father, we are refreshed, and our minds are renewed and open enough to hear from Him.

So when life asks you a question, being current and present to hear God is the answer or "antidote" as Apostle Johnson so calls it. So on to the acronym:

R - revelation

H - hearing

E - examine

M - mind

A - application

Revelation: God has a history of consistently "exposing" hidden treasures or trues to his people. Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Here the Lord is inviting Jeremiah to basically come and ask. We have this same honor to come and ask, and God explicitly tells us, as He told Jeremiah, that He will show us things we know not of.

Hearing: Hearing requires a stillness. It is very difficult to receive accurate information or instruction with the noise of our own personal thoughts and other distractions. As I am typing this, there is literally a lawn mower or leaf blower in my background begging for my attention. One definition Apostle Johnson offered for hearing was "to attend to". This means that every competing "noise" must be purposely silenced. But remember, being a HEARER of the word is only one part of the puzzle.

Question: What things alter/hinder your hearing?

Examine: Our amazing Associate Pastor, Pastor Aaron, said it like this "We must assess what we hear and filter it through the Word of God." If we want God's answer to our questions or concerns, the best place to look is in His Word. I read in one of Beth Moore's bible studies, "the most wonderful set of fingerprints (evidence) God left with His invisible hand is within our reach -- His Word!" (paraphrased, ephasis added) God's Word is FILLED with solutions, search it out!

Mind: We need the Holy Spirit to transform our minds. PERIOD. Our consistent and open-hearted communion with God is an indication to Him that we desire to be transformed. A very popular scripture, Romans 12:2 tells us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." This scripture is not a challenge to display more "good behavior." It is a challenge to change your perspective, and trust God to change your affections! As you mature spiritually (internally), your outward expressions have no other choice but to follow suit.

Application: Everything mentioned above is like a sand castle built at the shore of the sea if there is no application. Simply put...obey God's Words, written and rhema!

Allow the sharp-shooter Message Version of James 1:22-24 to explain:

“Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:22-24‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Friend. Family, God still speaks. Go to Him in prayer and ask Him to speak to your current situations or concerns; I am certain He will answer. Why? Because as mentioned before...He said He would.

Signed with Love,
